Where is Pamukkale in Turkey?


So, you’ve heard about Pamukkale and decided to go there. As you are  making your travel plans, you are probably wondering where exactly Pamukkale is in Turkey. “How to get there?” “Is it far from Istanbul or other places you are travelling to in Turkey?” Pamukkale is in the Aegean region of Turkey which is the southwest part of Turkey.

Pamukkale is close to both Aegean Sea and Mediterranean Sea. Pamukkale is in Denizli region which is the textile capital of Turkey. It’s placed 20 kilometers away from Denizli City Center and 10 kilometers away from ancient city Laodikeia. Hierapolis is right next to Pamukkale.

The weather of Pamukkale is usually warm throughout the year and it has a nice climate for travelling.

You can easily find buses from major cities like Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and Mugla as well as touristic places like Kusadasi and Bodrum throughout the day.

Only Istanbul at this point have flights to Denizli Cardak Aiport. Denizli Cardak Airport is in Cardak county and it’s 70 km away from Pamukkale and you can easily find a transportation to get to Pamukkale. There are 3 airlines that are operating between Istanbul and Denizli: Turkish Airlines, Borajet and Pegasus Airlines. Turkish Airlines departures from Istanbul Ataturk Airport as Borajet and Pegasus Airlines departures from Sabiha Gokcen Airport. By Bus

pamukkale-busBus is one of the most used transportation options in Turkey and you can find many buses from many locations to Denizli. Most cities in the region and most major cities in Turkey have buses to Denizli everyday. Taking a bus is convenient and affordable way to travel to Pamukkale. It’s important to know that most buses come to Denizli Bus Station (Denizli Otogar). Although some buses directly go to Pamukkale from places like Kusadasi, majority of buses use Denizli Bus Station as their hub. To get from Denizli Bus Station to Pamukkale, you can take a dolmus (minibus) that takes off frequently from there or you can take a taxi. Either way, it will take about 20 minutes to get to your hotel in Pamukkale.

By Train

This is the only train route that connects to Denizli, so if you would like to come to Pamukkale from Izmir, Adnan Menderes Airport or Selcuk, you can take this train. It will take about 4 hours to get from Izmir to Denizli and the ride costs 18.75 TL for one-way.

Pamukkale has a nice, warm climate throughout the year. Because it’s placed in southwest part of Turkey and is close to Mediterranean and Aegean sea, visitors benefit from this good climate. Every year, over a million tourists visit Pamukkale and enjoy this paradise anytime throughout the year. But, “what is the best time time to come to Pamukkale? Can you come to Pamukkale in winter?”


The idea of coming to Pamukkale in winter might scare you off. But even in the winter, Pamukkale doesn’t get too cold because of its good geographical location. The temperature gets under 0°C usually just for a week. If you avoid that particular time, you sure will be fine. As for the snow, it snows in Denizli rarely, depending the year.  It might snow just a couple days in a year, but that might change to 2 weeks in following year.
