Train

There’s a railroad connection between Izmir and Denizli and this is the only one that connects to Denizli. The train departures from Izmir Basmane and it stops at popular places like Adnan Menderes Airport, Selcuk and Aydin. Getting to Pamukkale by Train

Although bus is the main transporatation system between cities, you can try other options as well, depending on your location. For example, if you are coming from Istanbul to Pamukkale, taking a plane would be a convenient choice. And if you are coming from Izmir, taking a train is an option.

Denizli has a train station right across the bus station and it’s only 20 minutes away from Pamukkale. Currently, the railroad is connected to Izmir only. So, if you are coming from Izmir, Adnan Menderes Airport or Selcuk, you can the train that operates between these locations and Denizli.

The train departures from Izmir and stops at places like Adnan Menderes Airport, Selcuk  and Aydin and proceeds to Denizli with other stops. So, if your flight lands on Adnan Menderes Airport, taking a train to Pamukkale might be a convenient way to travel. If you are visiting Ephesus, which is in Selcuk, you can take Izmir-Denizli train from there as well.

There are currently 7 trains running between Izmir and Denizli and you can catch one of them throughout the day.

To get from station to Pamukkale, you can take a taxi right from in the station or you can take a dolmus (minibus) from bus station that is right across the train station.

There are 3 airlines that are operating between Istanbul and Denizli: Turkish Airlines, Borajet and Pegasus Airlines. Turkish Airlines departures from Istanbul Ataturk Airport as Borajet and Pegasus Airlines departures from Sabiha Gokcen Airport. By Bus

Most cities in the region and most major cities in Turkey have buses to Denizli everyday. Taking a bus is convenient and affordable way to travel to Pamukkale. It’s important to know that most buses come to Denizli Bus Station (Denizli Otogar). Although some buses directly go to Pamukkale from places like Kusadasi, majority of buses use Denizli Bus Station as their hub. To get from Denizli Bus Station to Pamukkale, you can take a dolmus (minibus) that takes off frequently from there or you can take a taxi. Either way, it will take about 20 minutes to get to your hotel in Pamukkale.

By Train

This is the only train route that connects to Denizli, so if you would like to come to Pamukkale from Izmir, Adnan Menderes Airport or Selcuk, you can take this train. How to Get to Pamukkale from Fethiye

Most cities have buses to Denizli and Fethiye is not an exception. Pamukkale Turizm has buses to Denizli two times a day from Fethiye. Buses departure at 10:15 and 14:00 at Fethiye Bus Station (Otogar). There are 2 brances of Pamukkale Turizm in Fethiye that you can purchase your tickets from. Unfortunately unlike most bus tickets, you can’t purchase tickets online for Fethiye -> Pamukkale route.

Cameli Koop

Cameli Koop is a local company that serves in Aegean region of Turkey. It has couple of destinations that goes between Denizli. It has 6 buses a day from Fethiye to Denizli and a ticket costs 22 TL. You can purchase Cameli Koop tickets via Metro Turizm brances. So, it shouldn’t be a problem to find a ticket in Fethiye Bus Station. Here’s the daily schedule for Cameli Koop buses:

Goltur

Finally, we advise you to be there at least 20 minutes early before your bus leaves.

Transfer between Istanbul Ataturk Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport

Istanbul Ataturk Airport is the main gateway of international travelers in Turkey and most of the international flights use it as their main base. Smaller portion of international flights use Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport as well. You might be asking; “I have landed on Ataturk Airport but my Pamukkale / Denizli flight takes off at Sabiha Gokcen Airport. How do I get there?” It’s a great question and it’s important to know before you make your travel plans.

So, you have landed on Istanbul Ataturk Airport. But let’s say, you bought a Pegasus Airlines ticket to get to Denizli, and their flights take off at Sabiha Gokcen Airport. The first thing you should know is that, Istanbul Ataturk Airport is on the European side of Istanbul. On the other hand, Sabiha Gokcen Airport is on the Asian side of Istanbul. The distance between them is about 70 km. And unfortunately, there’s no direct shuttle or bus connection between them.

However you have a couple of options:

Havatas

havatas-logoHavatas is a passenger transportation service between Istanbul airports and downtown.  It has connections to both airports but not direct connection between two airports. After you land on either one of the airports, you can take Havatas shuttle and it will take you Taksim. Once you get Taksim, you can take another Havatas shuttle and go either to Ataturk Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport, depending on where you want to go. So basically, if you land on Istanbul Ataturk Airport, take Havatas shuttle and go to Taksim. After you get to Taksim, take a different Havatas shuttle from there that goes to Sabiha Gokcen Airport. So basically you need be changing your shuttle at Taksim and be taking two Havatas buses to arrive your airport.

To get from Ataturk Airport to Taksim takes approximately 40 minutes. Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Taksim is approximately 1.5 hours. Of course, these times may change depending on traffic. Havatas shuttles will take of every 30 minutes and one Havatas ride costs 10 TL, and it’s a good price considering how far it will take you.

Alan Transfer

You should make a reservation before your arrival and one of their vehicles will be there waiting for you. There are couple of vehicles that you can choose depending on how many people you are travelling with. You can take a shuttle that costs 59 TL per person. If you are traveling with no more than 3 people in total, you can book a sedan car that costs 150 TL. If you come with a large group, you can book a minibus that will get up to 13 people. Taxi

You can always take a taxi from Ataturk Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport and go to your destination directly. Since both airlines are really far from each other, taking a taxi may be a little pricey. You can take a look at here for an approximate of how much you could be charged if you take a cab.

Important

Getting around between two airports may cost you extra money and you may lose time in Istanbul traffic. So, before you purchase your tickets, look at the airports you are landing on and figure out which one is going to be more convenient for you. For example, if you land on Istanbul Ataturk Airport, try to fly with Turkish Airlines since they fly from Ataturk Airport to Denizli. If you land on Sabiha Gokcen Airport, try to go with either Borajet Airlines or Pegasus Airlines since they both use Sabiha Gokcen Airport for their Denizli flights.

How to Get to Pamukkale from Cappadocia (Goreme)

If you go to Cappadocia before visiting Pamukkale and wondering how the transportation would work between two incredible places, this piece of writing can help you. Pamukkale Turizm has buses called Teknobus in its fleet. Teknobus is a bus that has a touch screen for every seat which you can watch movies, listen to music or play games with. What’s cool is that, some of their buses have wireless internet and plug sockets, so you can use your laptop on the road.

As far as the name suggests, you might be thinking all of their buses are taking off at Pamukkale. 🙂 But no, the main base of Pamukkale Turizm is Denizli Otogar (Bus Station) and majority of their buses as well as other bus companies are using there as their hub. That being said, some of Pamukkale Turizm buses take off right in Pamukkale. So, whether you want to go to those places or come from those places, here’s the list:

Aydin Kusadasi Selcuk Soke

As mentioned before, Denizli Bus Station is used for the majority of bus routes and you can go to over to 40 different places from there by taking a Pamukkale Turizm bus. The size of the bus changes depending on how far you are going. For short destinations, usually small buses are provided whereas for long destinations, large buses are being used.

On the road, depending on how far you are going, you will be provided free snacks, sandwiches with a drink of your choice. For long destinations such as Istanbul, buses will stop at roadhouses for passengers to take a break. In those locations, you can find cafes and markets where you can buy food or drink.

Most of Pamukkale Turizm buses have 2+2 layout which you get to sit with someone next to you. If you are travelling with someone, that should be no problem; however note that the seat next to you may be assigned to someone else if you are travelling alone. Some of Pamukkale Turizm buses have 2+1 layout which you can get a single seat without sitting next to anyone.
